Skills USA Competes in Laredo
The Skills USA students and their sponsors traveled to Laredo to compete at the District 12 competition. Students were competing against all schools small and large in our region, which includes Laredo, Eagle Pass and Corpus Christi. While all of the competitors represented Crystal City High School well the following students are to be commended for their performance and advancement to State competition in Corpus Christi.

• Jay Monday earned 1st place and advanced to state in the Automotive Technical Information competition.
• The team consisting of Adam Amoles, Abel Alvarado, Mark Longoria and Justin Perez advanced to state for their project: Chevy Small Block Engine.
• Yubanca Mata’s poster display of Ed Gain for Criminal Justice advanced to State competition.
• Eva Aguado’s poster display of FBI for Criminal Justice advanced to State competition.
• Stephani Sanchez and Ybanca Mata were interviewed by the New York Times for their part in the competition.
• In the Felony Traffic stop competition the team of Daniella Rios and Ruben Alonzo advanced to state with a first place trophy.
• Luz Garza earned 1st place and advanced to state in Web page design for Criminal Justice.
• The Emblem Ceremony Team won 2nd place, advancing to state are Natasha Villarreal, Eva Aguado, and Luz Garza
• Everardo Balderas won 3rd place in the Building Trades Chapter Display competition.
• The team consisting of Katherine Benavides, Kathleen Benavides, Vanessa Lombraña, Alyssa Flores, Barbara Ruiz, Alexandra Ortiz, and Ana Serna won 3rd place in the opening ceremony procedures for Building Trades.
• Stephanie Sanchez’ Carpentry project of a miniature gazebo qualified for state.

Advisors for these events are Building Trades: Enrique Jasso; Automotive: Homer Saenz; Criminal Justice: Luis Hinojosa.
