On Thursday March 29, 2007 the Auto-Tech Skills USA team traveled to the state competition in Corpus Christi, TX. The team was represented by Club President Mark A. Longoria who is a senior C.C.H.S., Vice President Abel Alvarado who is also a senior at C.C.H.S., and their Instructor Mr. H. Saenz who is the Auto mechanics instructor at the C.C.H.S.
The team made the state competition with their project of a rebuilt 305 Small Block Chevrolet Engine. They advanced to state after taking the project to the Skills USA District 12 competition in Laredo, TX on March 3, 2007.
At the State Competition there were over 200 schools from the entire state of Texas. Schools from cities such as Dallas, Austin, Houston, and technical colleges were competing against each other. The team made history for C.C.H.S. by being the first ones to represent the school at the state level and winning a 1st place State Superior ribbon. By winning the state competition the team members get a full scholarship to Wyotech if they choose to go there.
The team would like to thank their instructor and friend Mr. Saenz for all the hard work, time, effort, and his guidance he put towards the project. Without his knowledge none of this would be possible and he has impacted a great deal on their lives and knowledge as they are preparing for college. Thanks go out to all the supporters of the club. The club also sends out a special thanks to Alex Cantu from Alex Cantu’s Machine Shop in Carizzo Springs, for dipping the engine block in acid to clean it up and providing the overhaul kit used for the project.
