Principal: Dina Briones
Dina Briones, principle, received a bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Sul Ross State University. She has 16 years experience 14 of which are teaching at the Rivera Zavala elementary (Kindergarten) and 2 as Principal of the Zavala Elementary. Ms. Briones feels that she bring leadership, motivation, and charge to the Elementary. Ms. Briones gives this message to parents, “I have an open-door policy, which welcomes all parental involvement.”
Counselor: Maggie Rodriguez
Maggie Rodriguez, counselor, graduated from Texas A&I, now A&M University at Kingsville receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical education and Health while attaining a minor in History. She later received a Master’s in counseling from Sul Ross State University. Ms. Rodriguez accomplished he student teaching in Alice, Texas. She has 10 years experience in coaching/teaching, 21 years counseling 18 at the Sterling H. Fly Jr. High and the last 3 at The Zavala Elementary. Maggie feels that she brings energy, empathy, care, support, and 31 years of experience to Zavala Elementary.
Counselor: Yolanda Luna
Yolanda Luna, counselor, graduated from Sul Ross State University in Alpine with her Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees. Her basics were taken at several different colleges which include SWTJC, SACC, and UTSA. She has 9 years counseling experience along with 7 years of 1st grade bilingual teaching and three years Early Childhood Intervention Program (home based teacher). Mrs. Luna feels that she brings an effective developmental guidance program for all students, heart and soul to Zavala Elementary, and helps students examine their abilities and talents. “I work hard to reach my goal: Help students become successful, responsible, and productive members of society.
